Messing around with 3D space

[ October 16th, 2008 | II Previsuals ]

only testing…

Ok, i started by arranging some (app. 8000) Dots in 3D space. I added some tiny low-key lines to describe the room. This and additional depth-of-field seemed neccesary for the viewers to orient themselves.

So, the demo scenario is:
Some Points get selected, become yellow and grow a bit. Some of those selected points are more important because there is a relationship to another one to whom they get connected.

This screenshot shows my attempts to Highlight the selected points a bit more by surrounding them with a wireframe sphere

There were some nice results, if the spheres where big and very low-key. Then you could see nice overlays and a kind of cloud at compacter regions.

This screenshot shows a chunkier distribution of the points and the (fake-) depth-of-field

A combination with basic geometric shapes as shown here seems to bring more structure and “understanding” of the data. The purpose could be to assign several attributes to the edges or faces of this shape, so they can act as attractors.

erm, sorry. most things are best viewed in motion.
